Systems Engineering Receives Governor's Award for Business Excellence

This year, three Maine companies were honored at the 26th annual awards ceremony at an afternoon reception at the Blaine House on Tuesday, December 20th. SE is among a small group of employee-owned companies to receive this prestigious honor since its inception in 1991. 

The annual Governor’s Award, which is administered by the Maine Department of Economic and Community Development (DECD), recognizes Maine businesses that have a demonstrated commitment to their employees, their community, to customer satisfaction, and overall business excellence. Since the program’s inception, 143 companies across Maine have received the award.

Founded in 1988 in Portland, Maine, Systems Engineering (SE) is a leading IT strategy integrator and managed IT services provider, serving hundreds of clients throughout New England and beyond. The company’s mission remains the same today as it was in 1988 – to deliver engineering excellence and superior customer service. Comprehensive services and solutions range from network design implementation, installation and monitoring, to managed services, consulting, information security, governance and compliance, cloud services and outsourced IT solutions. The staff includes network engineers, managed security professionals, project managers and account managers, all with a deep understanding of today’s complex technology environment and the challenges it creates for businesses. 

In attendance to receive the award from Systems Engineering were Craig Tribuno, President; Todd Molloy, Director of Sales & Marketing; April Laverriere, Marketing Manager; and Blair Colby, Digital Marketing Specialist. 

To be eligible for the award, companies must have been in business in Maine for at least five years and must complete a rigorous applications process. Companies are allowed to submit for the award as often as they choose but may only win once. Additional information about the award can be found on Maine.gov.

Systems Engineering was founded in 1988 on the simple mission of delivering engineering excellence and superior customer service. Caring for its Employees

After operating as a privately held business for 20 years, Systems Engineering established itself as an Employee Stock Ownership Company (ESOP) in 2008 giving its employees an ownership an interest in the company by allowing them to earn stock. The decision positively reinforced the existing culture at the company and today the company’s 134 employees understand that their individual contributions truly make a difference, which in turn creates a more empowered, productive and happy workforce. Systems Engineering offers a number of programs and benefits for employees to reach both financial and physical wellness. Because Systems Engineering is dedicated to motivating and rewarding employees for their commitment, employee retention has averaged 90% since 2011.   

Giving to the Community

During the company’s 28-year history, System Engineering’s leadership and staff have identified a number of charitable causes that they care greatly about which it’s leading charitable causes being the Ronald McDonald House, The Salvation Army, Preble Street Soup Kitchen and the Center for Financial Literary. In addition to lits leading causes, the company has supported more than more than 20 organizations and a variety of churches, youth high school sports teams and rotary clubs across Maine. In the last three years, Systems Engineering has donated almost $71,000 in cash and $20,000 of in-kind services to businesses and causes across Maine.
